南州糖廠早年稱為東港糖廠，因易與東港鄉地名混淆乃更名。屏東縣南州鄉原稱溪州鄉，因與彰化縣溪州鄉同名，於1956年改為南州鄉，1958年2月10日起火車站名亦由溪州站改為南州站。
